Thomas Read collection.

This collection consists of selected papers of Thomas Read, covering the dates 1907-1962. These papers include certificates; newspaper clippings and journal articles; correspondence; election records of western Mich. delegates elected to the GOP state and national conventions; programs from dedication ceremonies and event involving Read; his elections and political appointments; Michigan financial statesments; his id and membership cards; memorial services attended by Read; press releases from his campaigns; and speeches. The collection also includes scrapbooks, covering the dates 1939-1940, which contain newspaper clippings dealing with his career.

Thomas read was born at Rochester, N.Y. on May 28, 1881. He came to Mich. in 1889 and was educated in the public schools, the Ferris Institute at Big Rapids, and the University of Michigan, graduating from the law dept. of the latter in 1913. He practiced law for a number of years in Shelby, while also serving as a township clerk, village counselor, and member of the school board.
